Hubbards Team Cooks Dinner for the Families at Ronald McDonald House Ronald McDonald House Auckland is a ‘home away from home’ for families from all over NZ whose desperately ill children require potentially lifesaving treatment. They provide shelter and support for those families who must travel to Auckland because the specialist treatment their child urgently requires isn’t necessarily available to them nearby. The House and Family Room are run by the RMH Auckland Trust which is a 100% community charitable trust. This trust requires the support of the community and its businesses to survive and continue to provide the wonderful service that it does for all those families in their times of need.
Hubbards is one of a number of businesses that helps RMH in their quest to provide these families with accommodation and support in their times of need, by donating $5,000 from the sales of our kids’ cereals, as well as giving product to RMH for the residents to consume during their stay.
Another way to help those families during their stay at RMH is to volunteer to cook everyone’s dinner on specified nights. This is open to corporate groups or simply a group of friends wanting to volunteer. On the 17th of December ’08 and the 16th of February ‘09, a group of 10 volunteers from Hubbards (and a four from Barkers Anathoth and Twin Agencies to make up a great team in February) went into RMH Auckland to cook dinner for all the families staying in the ‘Home away from Home’ Business Club. We decided to cook a BBQ with homemade burgers in December and a Chicken Casserole in February. There were about 80 parents and children who came along each night, all very grateful for the efforts made by the Hubbards crew. Two enjoyable and rewarding evenings had by all participants and we have three more dinners being planned for the rest of the year, where we look forward to creating different menus for each occasion. We would like to spread the word about this opportunity to help out and challenge all other companies to do their part in supporting this wonderful facility. The Hubbards Team |
