REAL Duathlon 2012

We are proud to be involved with and support the REAL Duathlon, a national series of events inspiring women of all ages and fitness levels to challenge themselves by foot and bike. Women celebrate the personal triumph of achieving a 3.5 km run/walk, 10 km cycle and a 1.5 km run/walk to cross the finish line.

Registrations are now open.

It’s not a race – it is designed so women of all ages and fitness levels can join in together. You can participate by yourself or in a team.  It is about real kiwi women who juggle busy lives, some at home, some at work and some with both. Real women like to socialise and their friends are important in their lives. Real women support one another and they do things in groups. Real women are not perfect – they don’t have the perfect body shape and most enjoy the occasional indulgence. That is what makes a woman a real woman

We are Hubbards are passionate about encouraging women to lead healthy lifestyles and to get REAL with Regular Exercise, Active Lives.

Take inspiration and motivation from what previous REAL Duathletes experienced.

The duathlons are great fun.  Now everyone can see it for themselves on YouTube.  If you haven't checked out this season's duathlons as they appear on the web, make a dash there now.  You'll feel inspired for 2012.

"The Chch earthquake killed my training, but having the option to walk instead of run, enabled me to still complete my first Duathlon without too much stress on the body.  I had sooooo much fun on the day, everyone I met was having fun & cheering each other on, the venue was absolutely gorgeous, my family had such a great time watching me participate (and bouncing on the bouncy castle and munching the free muffins - Thanks!!)and hopefully I have inspired my kids to give things a go too.  I definitely have inspired my husband and now he's looking for a REAL mens Duathlon to give it a go himself."

"Thank you so much for a wonderful event at Lake Hood yesterday. The CHCH Real Womens event in 2010 was my first ever duathlon, but one year later, 6 duathlons later, 17kg lighter, I blitzed my time by an amazing 16mins. The confidence, friendship and sisterhood is amazing at these events and I am pleased to have been able to pass this on to a couple of my friends who completed their first Real Womens Duathlon yesterday. A big thank you to the the crew who pulled this event together in such a short time, I really hope to see it back at Lake Hood."

I participated in my first REAL dualthon today, at Lake Hood in Ashburton. The event was really well organised, and the venue was just fantastic. I've been a supporter of family members from Ashburton at the duathlons held at McLean's Island for the last few years, and feel that Lake Hood is a much better venue. They really enjoyed today's event too, and loved the venue. I'd be more than happy if it was held there from now on! I'm from Christchurch, and was really glad that the event wasn't cancelled. It's been great to think of something else for a few days. Thanks for a great event. It must have been super-stressful to organise it in Ashburton at such short notice; you've done a brilliant job.”

"My first duathlon & I did it with my daughter, who very kindly came back to my wave & walked/cycled with me, encouraging me all the way (I was wave 8, she was wave 1)! An amazing experience!
I have also been regularly at the physio with a sciatic nerve problem & infact had my leg strapped before getting into my gear! When I finished on Sunday I thought it would be my last duathlon but having seen my physio today, she is thrilled with my progress & says... yes, go all out & join  Ambury Park on 27th February... so I am back into training!”
