Over the last two and a half years after finishing my Food Technology degree I have been working in Nelson for Tasman Bay Food Group as a product development technologist. The company produces a range of juice and bakery products mainly for school canteens, but also for the retail market. The brands include Juicies, Hot Bites, Rapperz and Cookie Tree.

The company has always aimed to meet high nutritional standards and when I first started all new products had to meet the Heart Tick Criteria. Over the last few years there have been lots of changes in the school canteen market with the introduction and then removal of the School Food and Beverage Criteria. With this introduction several products needed redevelopment.

The company is also carries out contract manufacturing and I have been closely involved with other companies to produce products to their specifications.

I have launched many new products with the company including Juicie Sours and Juicie Smoothies. Two ready meal products. The Go! cookie which meets the Heart Tick criteria. Sausage rolls. A range of cookies for the organic retail market. As well as many line extensions, with new flavours of various products.

(Margaret worked for Hubbards prior to starting her final year as part of the practical work component of her degree. During this time she worked on two mueslis which were subsequently launched along with various other projects. She also completed her 4th Year project for Hubbards)
