Frequently Asked Questions - General
What is gluten?
Gluten is a type of protein which is naturally found in some grains such as wheat, barley, rye, and triticale among others. Oats due to their proximity to other gluten-containing grains when grown and processed are also considered to contain gluten by cross-contamination.
Gluten free cereals include rice, corn, millet, sorghum, psyllium, buckwheat, amaranth, quinoa, and kamut.
Thank Goodness Original, Cornflakes and Cocoa Puffs are our three gluten free products, which taste just like their gluten-containing counterparts except they are not made with Barley Malt Extract.
Are the cereals halal?

- There are no eggs or egg powders in our products
- Our emulsifier is plant based and certified halal
- Alcohol is not used on our site - either directly or indirectly as a carrier in our flavours
Do Hubbards cereals contain any GMO?
Our cereals do not contain any genetically modified ingredients.
What is Glycaemic Index?
The Glycaemic Index (GI) is based on the effect that different carbohydrate foods have on blood glucose levels regardless of the respective carbohydrate level. Having lower GI food items in your diet is better for you.
The GI ranks foods on a scale of 0-100 according to the effect they have on blood sugar levels.
- Low GI 0-54
- Medium GI 55-69
- High GI 70-100
High GI foods are quickly absorbed resulting in a fast peak in blood glucose levels which is not recommended for people with diabetes who need to try to keep their blood glucose levels stable.
Low GI foods are best for controlling diabetes providing they are also low in fat as they provide a gradual rise in blood glucose and insulin levels because the carbohydrates are slowly digested and absorbed.
Do we measure the GI level of our cereals?
Currently we do not measure the GI levels of the cereals.
I do not have a microwave – how do I make your porridge?
Stove top – combine 1/3 cup of porridge to ½ cup liquid (milk water or a mixture of both) in a saucepan. Stir to mix and bring to the boil and simmer for 3 – 5 minutes. Stir as necessary. Cool slightly before serving.
Alternatively with sachet – pour contents into a bowl cover with boiling water. Keep stirring until you achieve a consistent product, add more water if required.
