Why is Breakfast so Important?

Breakfast as you have no doubt been told – is the most important meal of the day.  It gets the body’s metabolism going,

Eating first thing in the morning will “break the fast” and replenish your blood sugar or glucose levels which are very low as you have generally been asleep without a meal for 6 – 10 hours.

If you skip breakfast, your body is forced to work extra hard in breaking down stored carbohydrates or to turn fats and proteins into usable forms of glucose.

Eating breakfast also helps tell your body that you are healthy and well fed and don’t need it to go into famine mode – storing extra fat for times when it is not going to be fed.

Eating Breakfast

  • Improves concentration
  • Improves mood
  • Improves memory
  • Reduces likelihood of high energy snacks being consumed early in the day
  • Studies have also shown that people who eat breakfast on a regular basis are less likely to be overweight than those who skip breakfast.

Without breakfast, kids in particular can be irritable, tired and unable to function to their full potential.

Don’t have time for a full sit down breakfast
  • Keep cereal on your desk at work and munch away whilst you check your emails
  • Try eating it straight from the box without milk
  • Grab a yoghurt on the way to work
